Tan, a Malaysian-born US citizen raised in Singapore, was appointed in March to revive Intel, which has received billions in US funding to boost domestic chip production. Republican Senator Tom Cotton cited reports that Tan invested in hundreds of Chinese companies, some allegedly linked to China's military. Intel defended Tan, affirming commitment to US national security. The dispute follows past scrutiny of Asian tech leaders, including TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, who faced repeated Senate questions about alleged Chinese ties despite being Singaporean.
