Supreme Court Upholds 28% Retro GST for Online Gaming

The Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of goods and services tax (GST) at 28% — the highest slab — on online gaming, fantasy sports, and betting and gambling transactions. Online gaming involving money stakes and uncertain outcomes falls within the ambit of “betting and gambling” under the GST framework, it said.
