Schools are not merely centres of learning; they are institutions where values, discipline, citizenship and social responsibility are nurtured. Therefore, education is not the responsibility of the government or teachers alone; it is a shared commitment of the entire society. It is with this vision that the school management committee (SMC) system was introduced to build a strong partnership between schools, parents and the community. As Himachal Pradesh constitutes new school management committees, the process represents not just an election but an opportunity to restore public confidence and infuse new energy into government schools.
