PILs Cannot Be Based On Digital Gossip, Unverified Media Reports: Madras HC

The Madras High Court has ruled that public interest litigation petitions cannot be based on “digital gossip”, YouTube content or unverified allegations. The court dismissed a PIL seeking inquiry into accreditation of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology, noting lack of independent research and reliance on ongoing DVAC probe and media reports.
