NHRC takes cognisance of Express report on maternal deaths in MP’s Sidhi, issues notice

The NHRC has taken notice of 53 maternal deaths in Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh and has issued a notice to the state’s Chief Secretary for a report within two weeks. Lack of awareness and medical facilities are cited as reasons for the deaths. The district has poor maternal health grading and faces transportation issues.
