India tops global TB chart: Why the nation remains at the epicenter of the crisis

A new World Health Organization (WHO) report has once again placed India at the top of the global tuberculosis (TB) burden chart, in terms of incidence of all TB cases, drug-resistant types of TB, and even TB-related deaths. The Global Tuberculosis Report 2025 states that India, despite seeing a drastic drop in incidence rates since 2010, still accounted for 25 per cent of all TB cases, 32 per cent of drug-resistant variants of TB cases, and about 28 per cent of TB-related deaths in 2024.
