Gastroenterologist Dr. Saurabh Sethi and clinical nutritionist Dt. Deepali Sharma highlight five scientifically-supported foods that can help lower blood pressure, emphasizing that dietary adjustments can complement medical management for those with hypertension. They recommend bananas for their high potassium content, which aids in sodium elimination; dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) for its magnesium and flavanols that boost nitric oxide production; beetroot due to organic nitrates converting to nitric oxide, promoting vasodilation; pomegranates for their ability to lower angiotensin-converting enzyme levels; and ginger, which acts as a natural calcium channel blocker. Both experts confirm the efficacy of these foods, noting that consistent inclusion in a balanced diet, alongside regular exercise, reduced salt intake, and prescribed medications, can significantly support heart health.
