While Donald Trump has threatened to withhold funds from New York City if Zohran Mamdani prevails in the mayoral election, federal law does not allow him to do so. This is because under the US Constitution, it is Congress that controls the purse strings of the government, known as the power of the purse, and not the president. However, this hasn’t stopped Trump from trying to do so already
