A Chinese gym in Shandong province launched an ambitious weight loss challenge offering a 2020 Porsche Panamera to any of the 30 participants who successfully lose 50 kg in three months, with a 10,000 yuan (US$1,400) registration fee covering meals and shared accommodation. However, consultant dietitian Garima Goyal stressed that losing 50 kg in three months is extremely ambitious and poses significant health risks, as safe and sustainable weight loss is typically much slower (0.5–1 kg per week). Goyal cautioned that this rapid weight loss can lead to muscle loss, nutrient deficiencies, organ stress, and high risk of rebound gain. Furthermore, linking health change to a luxury prize shifts the focus away from sustainable health habits to short-term, potentially harmful extreme practices, making the challenge an inadvisable health strategy unless done under strict medical supervision with personalized, long-term planning.
