Roasted chana is a Ayurveda-approved healthy snack idea that is mostly enjoyed in the form of an evening snack. As per Ayurveda texts, it is a wholesome, grounding, and tridosha-balancing food when consumed in moderation. It is a legume derived from chickpeas (Cicer arietinum), known for its ability to provide strength (bala) and nourishment (brimhana) without being too heavy (guru). According to a study titled Nutritional composition, health benefits and bio-active compounds of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), it is a good source of protein and carbohydrate, fiber, and an important source of essential minerals and vitamins. The quality of protein is better among other pulses. Consumption of chickpeas is related to beneficial health outcomes. It also highlights that the presence of bioactive peptides and antioxidants may offer additional health benefits including anti-inflammatory effects and potential roles in cancer prevention, although more human research is needed.
