36-hour fasting trend: Apollo doctor weighs health benefits vs possible risks. 4 must follow safety tips

A 36-hour fast can offer benefits like better insulin sensitivity, mild autophagy and improved focus, but Apollo neurologist Dr. Sudhir Kumar warns that it is not safe for everyone. He noted that long fasts may cause dehydration, low blood sugar symptoms, acidity, sleep issues and muscle loss if done too often. The method is especially unsafe for people with diabetes, low BMI, those on diuretics, individuals with eating disorders and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
